This year’s festival offers our most exciting and varied line-up yet with a host of films from different genres, periods and directors. We are proud to be screening some of the latest contemporary films to hit the Korean domestic market, which include the likes of the crowd-pleasing mega-hits Scandal Makers and Tidal Wave. The contemporary line-up also includes independent films that may not necessarily have been commercial hits, but have pleased audiences and critics alike for their innovative and groundbreaking filming and storylines.
Whilst contemporary films are a great asset to our festival, so are classic films, and we are honoured to screen a number of films from the late Yu Hyun-mok, who sadly passed away in June of this year.
The Family Film Club has always been a key feature of the festival at the Barbican Centre and in truth it wouldn’t be a Korean Film festival without it. So this year we are screening some of the latest Korean animation, which appeals to the whole family.
One of this year’s highlights is the Bong Joon-ho retrospective, which is screening all his popular films such as The Host and Memories of Murder, as well as his short films such as Incoherence, Influenza and more. This is a rare opportunity to see some of Bong's less well-known films, some of which are not normally widely available. Bong Joon-ho will also be available to answer questions on his latest film, Mother, at a Q&A at the BFI and Nottingham.
The 2009 Festival has now ended and we are concentrating on bringing an even more exciting line-up to London for 2010!
Thank you to everybody who came and showed their support, we look forward to seeing you again next year.
More news will appear here soon, please check back!
