A Mysterious Murder that Shocked the Country

Found inside a small room located in a secluded yard are dark pools of blood, with the room’s owner, Min Su-hyun, nowhere to be seen. Min’s father offers a big reward for anyone who finds his son, and, eager for that money, Young-dal(Oh Dal-su), a police officer stationed in Jongno, begins desperately tracking the trail of Min. Meanwhile, Gwang-su(Ryu Deok-hwan), a physician-in-training, discovers that the cadaver he found and brought to his lab for dissection is none other than the body of Min Su-hyun. At risk of being accused of the murder, Gwang-su hires private detective Jin-ho(Hwang Jung-min) to solve the case and, wanting to gets his hands on the reward, Jin-ho accepts the case with Gwang-su, an expert in medical knowledge, as his assistant.

Inside Min Su-hyun’s room, Jin-ho finds white powder and a peculiar Japanese Karakuri doll. Gwang-su and Jin-ho track down Soon-duk(Um Ji-won), a female inventor who works under a hidden identity, to receive the Far Seeing Eye, or a telescope, and a stethoscope-like machine called the Secret Listener that allows users to hear the faintest of sounds. After discovering that the white powder is morphine, the two men infiltrate an illegal opium house from where morphine is said to be secretly distributed. Once there, they find out Min was last seen performing as a member of the circus troupe.

Meanwhile, a second murder occurs. The victim is none other than the Commissioner of Police, one of the most powerful men in the land. Furthermore, the body was dumped in the same place where Min’s was found. Young-dal, under pressure to solve the serial murders, tries to wrap up the case by accusing a fake killer. Jin-ho and Gwang-su, however, realize the killings were done by one man. Near the corpse of the dead Commissioner, they find a piece of cloth stained with blood.

With the clues they’ve found, Jin-ho and Gwang-su visit the acrobatics troupe. Feeling the ominous air about them, they realize they must solve the case now to prevent further murders.

What do they point to and who is the killer? As they get closer to the truth, they get ever closer to unexpected secrets and a dark conspiracy.
